Rural Land Registry Mappings Update
During the second part of this year, the Rural Land Registry is issuing new maps for every holding in the country. The maps are being updated using aerial photography, and the Ordinance Survey 2008 Master Map. It is thought that 8,000 maps are being sent out per week. These maps are being produced in order to bring the UK in line with new legislation.
Once these maps are received you are given 28 days from the date on the accompanying letter to respond. It is essential that these maps are checked to ensure that:
- The correct land parcels have been included – many are arriving with other people’s land parcels included.
- Check the fields carefully to ensure that the correct boundaries are marked, and the permanent ineligible features marked, such as ponds and buildings, are correct. Also ensure that the marked field size is correct.
- If the maps are correct then you must respond within the time frame to the Rural Land Registry. This can be done by post, phone call, text message, or fax.
- If the maps are incorrect, then amendments must be made on the supporting form (RMU1), and marked on the maps. This must also be completed and returned within the 28 day limit.
If maps are not received within the 28 days then it will be assumed that they are correct. The data on the maps will then be utilised for the 2010 single payment forms, therefore if corrections need to be made they should be done now to ensure no loss of payment. If you require any assistance in completing your mappings update, or checking that the maps are correct, please contact Gemma Dalton or Stuart Milsom on 01285 648107.
